Message from the Principal

headmasterWelcome to “Our People”, the people of William Colenso College (Years 7 – 13).

I joined William Colenso College at the beginning of 2009. I was attracted to the school primarily because of the positive reputation of the staff and their willingness to go the extra mile to get the best out of students.

We have a fantastic staff and I want to share with you some of the comments I have received from our “Parent’s Association” and also from the students themselves about our staff:

“Teachers really care about the students and accept them for who they are, no matter what” – parent

“They always look for the best in your child and are approachable” – parent

“They allow student leaders to fully participate in the school, making decisions, running assemblies…” – parent

“They treat us as individuals and never give up on us” – student

“They go out of their way to help us achieve, they are really flexible” – student

These comments reflect the strong relationships between staff, students and families which I see evidence of every day. These relationships do not happen by chance, as we are very conscious of the importance positive relationships play in enhancing student learning and well-being.

Across the school we have a strong emphasis on developing the core values of:
  • RESPECT (MANAAKITANGA)
  • BELONGING (WHANAUNGATANGA)
  • DIVERSITY (REREKETANGA)
  • LEADERSHIP (RANGATIRATANGA)
  • STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE (HIRANGA)
  • LEARNING (MATATAUTANGA)
  • SUSTAINABILITY (KAITIAKITANGA)
